Sustainability Information Becomes Business Information

For decades, financial information sat at the centre of business decision-making. Today, sustainability information — and greenhouse gas data in particular — increasingly sits alongside it.

This isn't happening because regulators demand it. It's happening because lenders, investors, insurers, and customers are asking questions that only reliable emissions data can answer: How exposed is this counterparty to carbon pricing? Is this supplier's footprint consistent with our procurement policy? Can this number withstand scrutiny in a financing negotiation?

The shift in one sentence: emissions data used to describe the past for a report; now it increasingly shapes decisions about the future.
